Dubuque Chiropractors Christmas Light Show

What Are Subluxations?

‘Tis the season to be jolly! Family First Chiropractic Wellness Center has a holiday-themed chiropractic message for you.

Have you ever thought about your health in terms of a Christmas light show? Around here, we are serious about our metaphors, and believe it or not – your nervous system is much light a complex light display.

The Story of the Christmas Light Show

Not too long ago, a pediatrician in Minnesota ran into a dilemma that helped him fully grasp the concept of subluxation. Shortly after creating an intricate light show, including 100,000 lights, two miles of extension cords, and one mile of computer cables to connect all the moving parts, he was abruptly awoken by chaos. His masterpiece of corresponding lights and music had become a less-than-pleasant presentation of strobe lights and unrelated sound.

The issue? A rabbit had chewed through one of the cords. By doing this, the rabbit had caused moisture to enter the system, sending an erratic signal to the computer, which acted as the central control of the display. Without this cable, the computer could no longer coordinate all parts of the light show. To fix the huge problem, the pediatrician had to make only one, small correction. Rather than change out all the malfunctioning lights, he simply replaced the cable.

You might be curious – what does this have to do with subluxations? The answer is everything.

Similar to the broken cord and dysfunctional computer, your central nervous system cannot properly communicate with the rest of your body when as much as a tiny interference exists. That is where chiropractors come in. Our job is to locate and correct the disturbance, allowing the body to heal and take care of itself as it was designed.

Current Events

Now that we are all on the same page about subluxations, we can talk about the fun activities going on in the office!

As December is a time for giving, we are participating in the Toys for Tots donation program. If you would like to take part in this drive, all you have to do is bring in a new toy to place in the designated box. We are also collecting new and gently-used outerwear for those in need. Please let us know if you have any questions.
